Snapshot: Amusement

Disney is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the U.S., drawing families, spring breakers, and honeymooners alike. And with Cara and Kevin’s vacation last week, I thought I’d give a shoutout to some organized fun destinations.

Do you enjoy theme or amusement parks? Have you ever been to any bizarre ones?

  1. There are a lot of weird amusement parks around Europe, but I’ve never quite been able to bring myself to visit them, as they seem more aimed at children. There’s BonBon Land in Denmark, which has a farting dog themed ride, and the regrettably named Plopsa Land in Belgium, based around a children’s TV show about a gnome. And I think there’s a couple “Wild West” themed ones around France, which have to be amusing. When I was a kid, we’d usually just go to Cedar Point, which was about an hour and a half away, or Geauga Lake, which was even closer (but no longer exists). I also liked Conneaut Lake in Pennsylvania, because they had all those old-school laff-in-the-dark rides that I loved.
