Unfortunately today was a little less productive than I had planned. As I’ll be making a trip up to Maine this weekend, I thought I’d be really ambitious and cross five towns off the list of thirty-nine to make up for lost time. Though I did venture into Newport County today, I only visited two towns.
Tiverton– My first stop of the day was an easy one, but I made it nonetheless. I’ve posted about Tiverton before, and I think this small, rural, coastal town has a lot of interesting points to it: Black Goose has great food and coffee, Fort Barton is fun to explore, and Tiverton Four Corners is a cool, historic area. There are also a few beaches in town which will be great for hot, sunny, and hopefully less humid days.

Little Compton is an easy drive away from the Tiverton Four Corners. On the way, there are a few farm stands and Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyards which has a cafe and tastings. Little Compton has a commons area downtown with their town hall, a few restaurants, and a general store which I popped into. There aren’t many general stores like Wilbur’s left these days. Part grocery store, part hardware store, part Little Compton souvenir store, Wilbur’s has pretty much anything you could think of. I spent a few minutes looking around this old-school shop before heading out, and if you’re in the area it’s worth a visit.

Although this weekend in Maine may make me push back my deadline for RI39, I’ve definitely learned a thing or two about Rhode Island so far. Five down, thirty-four to go!
I love an ol’ fashioned General Store!!
